In 1985 the curtain rose at the Barbican Theatre in London of 'Les Miserables'. 25 years later, still in the lineup, without missing even one day of its appointment with the public and becoming the longest lasting musical in history. Tomorrow, at the Teatro Lope de Vega in Madrid, the novel of Victor Hugo will come alive again through the first actualization of the text made by its own creators, Cameron Mackintosh, Trevor Nunn and John Caird.. “We have revised the orchestration, lighting, scenery and it has become a new adaptation of the libretto. Do not expect to see something you've already seen,” said James Powell, director of the play in London and Madrid. With a budget of over four million euros and a pre-sale of 40,000 tickets, the ideals of the French Revolution are going to rumble again strongly in Spain. And they are going to do that only during a single season. “It can not be extended,” says its creator. Are you going to miss it?

56 millions of people can not be wrong

Madrid will be the only city in the world (with the exception of London, of course) where you can see 'Los Miserables'. The musical features more than 100 actors, accumulates more than 77 first-class theater awards and has been translated into 21 languages, represented in 291 cities and seen by more than 56 million people. The last time it was in Spain was in 1992, and featured Carlos Marin ('IlDivo') in the cast. Susan Boyle rose to planetary fame singing the theme 'I dreamed a dream'.

“I've gone from 'Algo pequeñito' (Something Tiny) to something really gigantic. It’s a unique work.”

“The level of intensity in the show is such that it is hard to separate yourself from the character. It could leave you affected if you don’t do it.”

DANIEL DIGES / ‘Enjolras’
“From here, none of the other roles will raise this high”

Daniel Diges plays the revolutionary Enjolras. It’s not a main role, "but to be a part of the cast of 'Los Miserables' is something I've dreamed of forever."

From Eurovision to here. How did the process go?
– I was already involved in the casting of 'Los Miserables' before Eurovision. It’s a step further.

Was it hard to get the role?
– Very. I didn’t believe that I will make it. But this is like to sign up for Real Madrid of the musicals.

And mastering the character?
– That also. Enjolras is a leader, a visionary. We do not resemble much, but among my friends I was the 'leader’. In addition I have had to go to the gym and get strong.

How is the show seen from above?
– It’s engaging. From time to time you confuse fiction and reality.

Do revolutionary ideals still exist?
– Certainly. We should rise up in arms against many things.
